Golfing For Purpose

April 15, 2025

At Athletes in Action Zimbabwe, we are committed to building spiritual movements everywhere through the sports platform so that everyone knows someone who truly follows Jesus. Recently, we hosted an impactful Golf Outreach Program designed to leverage the game of golf as a platform for meaningful gospel engagements, mentorship, and community transformation. Our program aimed to bridge connections between local and inspiration to young people, especially in marginalized communities. With a 32-member delegation from the United States, alongside participants from South Africa, the event attracted over 450 local attendees, including golfers, church leaders, and children.

The program left a lasting mark on both the community and AIA Zimbabwe. At an orphanage in Chinhoyi, over 120 children engaged in fun sports activities, receiving mentorship and encouragement through inspiring stories. Local golfers collaborated with the American team to organize clinics and tournaments, demonstrating the unifying power of golf for kingdom purposes.

Kyle Bloom, Head Coach of the visiting golfers, stated, "The clinics were the most amazing part because we got to interact with different golfers, sharing the Gospel and our testimonies with them."

The American team's visit greatly influenced AIA Zimbabwe's ongoing work. They not only shared their skills but also their faith stories, sparking renewed energy within our organization.

Joel Greenfield, an AIA staff member from the USA, noted, "We hope that the disciples we made in our interactions will become disciples who make disciples, creating a multiplying effect."

Building on the success of this outreach, we plan to expand our gold programs, establish regular clinics for young people in underserved areas, and deepen partnerships with local golf clubs and churches.

AIA Zimbabwe Director Tafadzwa Maramba emphasized, "By fostering these connections, we aim to sustain and grow the golf ministry while leveraging these partnerships to support other impactful initiatives."

We hosted a memorable dinner with 102 participants, including local golfers and church leaders, to strengthen relationships and share our vision for the golf ministry.

Our ultimate goal is to establish AIA Zimbabwe as a pioneering force in harnessing the power of sports to drive transformative change in communities across Africa, inspiring hope, unity, and a lasting impact for generations to come," said AIA Africa Director Christopher Chinyati.
